50 Lines Of War: A Casino Classic
The game of war is one that has been around for centuries, and it is a classic casino game that can be found in almost any gambling establishment. The object of the game is to capture all of your opponent's pieces, or to capture more pieces than your opponent does. The game can be played with anywhere from two to four players, and the game board consists of a square grid with alternating black and white squares.
Each player starts with 16 pieces, which are placed on the first four squares on their side of the board. Black moves first, and then play alternates between black and white. Pieces can only move forward one square at a time, and they can only move sideways or diagonally if they are next to an opposing piece. If an opposing piece occupies the square that a piece wants to move to, then that piece can't move.
When a piece is moved, it either captures the opposite piece or blocks the piece from moving. If a piece is captured, then the capturing player takes the piece and sets it in front of them. If a player blocks an opposing piece from moving, then that opposing piece can't move. The game is over when one player either captures all of the pieces of their opponent or captures more pieces than their opponent does.

50 Lines Of War For Fun And Profit
This is a primer on the use of 50 lines of code to wage online warfare for fun and profit.
The first thing you need is a text editor. I recommend Sublime Text, which you can download at http://www.sublimetext.com/. Once you have Sublime Text, open it and create a new file called "war.txt".
Next, type in the following code:
!/usr/bin/env python import SocketServer import SimpleHTTPServer import time PORT = 8000 class War(SocketServer.BaseRequestHandler): def handle(self): while True: cmd = input(">>") if cmd == "exit": break print("You entered: {}".format(cmd)) self.send_response(200) self.send_header("Content-type", "text/plain") self.end_headers() self.wfile.write(cmd + "
") if name == "main": SocketServer.TCPServer((HOST,PORT), War).serve_forever()
Save this file as "war.py" in the same directory as your "war.txt" file. You're now ready to start waging online warfare!
To run your script, open a terminal and change directories to the directory containing your "war.py" and "war.txt" files. Then type the following command:
python war.py
Get Into The Action With 50 Lines Of War
As the cold settles in, thoughts of warmer climates dance through our heads. Itching to get into some action, we pack up and head down to Central America for a few weeks of birding. The excitement starts as soon as we land in Quetzaltenango Airport (Xela), just outside the Guatemala highlands. After picking up our rental car and getting oriented in the quaint city, we take the short drive up into the mountains, winding our way along switchbacks and dodging chickens on the road.
The sites at our altitude are stunning – deep valleys with villages nestled amongst coffee plantations, topped off by towering volcanoes. We spend every day exploring a different area, each with its own unique attractions: valley paramo, oak woodland, upper montane rainforest, pine-oak forest… and always with an epic view.We bird along trails, by rivers and waterfalls, through coffee plantations and even in people's yards! Each morning we venture out early for some warbler action: Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart, Chestnut-sided Warbler… the list goes on. As the day progresses things heat up with Rufous Sabrewing hummingbirds buzzing past our heads and gorgeous Rose-breasted Grosbeaks perched nearby.
We finish each day satisfied after seeing both common and rare birds alike – Baird's Sparrows feasting at a roadside stop; Violet Sabrewings patrolling above us in pristine primary forest; Aztec Jays calling from deep within a cloud forest; Rosita's Thrashers catching insects on bare slopes at sunset. Our tally for the trip is impressive: over 290 species seen including 19 national firsts for us! All of this in just 50 lines of code!
The Hotspot
Xela is a great place to start your Central American birding adventure. There are plenty of birds to see close to town and you can easily get to other hotspots from here. The surrounding highlands provide excellent birding opportunities with elevations ranging from 2500m to 4000m (8200-13000ft). There are also volcanoes present which add an extra bit of excitement (and danger!) to any outing.
When To Go
The best time to go birding in Central America depends on what you want to see. If you want to see northern specialist birds such as Harpy Eagles then late winter/early spring is the time to go. If you want to see neotropical migrants then late fall/early winter is better. The weather is generally good year round so it really depends on what you want to target specifically. We went in early December and had great success targeting both specialists and migrants alike.
